Glaucoma damages the optic nerve tissue in the back of the eye. This nerve is responsible for taking the images gathered by your eyes and transmitting them to the brain for processing. The greatest danger of glaucoma stems from the fact that the disease is painless and without obvious symptoms until significant damage has occurred. This is why glaucoma has received it's nickname of "the silent thief of sight."

Dry Eye symptoms include scratchy eyes, burning, mild redness and gritty feeling eyes. Dry eye is caused by a problem with the lubricating tears. In some cases, not enough tears are made to moisten the eye. In others, enough tears are made, but they don't have the right amounts of each layer to work right.

The natural lens in the eye gradually becomes less clear as we get older. When opacities develop in the lens, it becomes too hazy. Cataracts make it so that light can't pass through easily and it becomes scattered. Learn how our team can help!

Under InfantSee, Dr. Cousineau is a participating InfantSEE optometrist who provides comprehensive infant eye assessments between six and twelve months of age as a no-cost public service.

Optomap is our ultra wide field retinal imagining technology. It takes images in less than a second and does not require dilation drops, eliminating a 30-minute dilation time in the exam room. The next generation in macular pigment measurement is here –QuantifEye MPS II. The QuantifEye MPS II measurement instrument is the most reliable and accurate device for measuring Macular Pigment Optical Density (MPOD). MPOD measurement allows EyeCare Professionals to assess a key AMD risk factor, low macular pigment, as well as other visual performance challenges.

Treatment of dry eye syndrome can vary depending upon the cause of your dry eye. Many people suffer from dry eye due to Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD). MGD leads to rapid evaporation of your tears, thus causing dryness sensation and irritation. If you have dry eye related to MGD, we offer LipiScan and LipiFlow to accurately diagnose and treat MGD.

The MiSight Program / Myopia Management is a new program that Holt Eye Care is the first to participate in for our area. MiSight® 1 day is a daily wear, single use contact lens that has been clinically proven and FDA-approved to slow the progression of myopia (nearsightedness) when initially prescribed for children 8-12 years old.
